How To Get More Stuff Done - Boost Business Support

We’d all love to figure out a way to get more stuff done (without having to reach for the caffeine or work 18-hour days!)

Sometimes it can seem like there’s a never ending list of projects to complete and overwhelm can set in, closely followed by stress and burnout.

But never fear! There are simple ways to stop from feeling constantly snowed-under, all you need to do is adjust your way of working!

If this sounds like a daunting prospect, don’t worry you are not alone – most entrepreneurs and business owners are so used to the way that they work that the idea of change just feels impossible.

These minor changes will be quite easy to implement into your day; so easy, in fact, that you will even enjoy making them, because you will feel like you are more in control.

So here are some of my simple “Do’s and Don’ts” for getting more stuff done:

Do:

Get more sleep: Start with the basics and get to bed earlier! Getting a good 8 hours of sleep each night will help you to feel much more alert, leading to better productivity.

Write a to-do list the night before: We all know the benefits of writing lists, but by doing it the night before you can wake up with clarity and focus. You may prefer to use an app for this, such as Asana, Wunderlist or Evernote.

Do one thing at a time: Dealing with one task at a time will improve your concentration, and help you to see it through before getting distracted with the next item on your to do list.

Plan your time: If you are not good at time management, add time limits to each task on your to-do lists and schedule them into your calendar, you know how long each task should take and when you’re going to do it.

Delegate to others: Hiring a virtual assistant is one of the best ways to get more stuff done. As a small business owner, there are always tasks that you should not be doing, or do not want to do yourself. Write a list of the tasks that you would like to delegate and you will be surprised at how much time you could save.

Don’t:

Start your working day looking at emails, or social media, or reading the news: This will suck you in the wrong direction, diverting you from your priorities and killing your enthusiasm before you even get going!

Avoid the harder or boring tasks: Procrastination will make everything take even longer, leading you right back to longer hours and plenty of wasted time.

Overcommit: Don’t commit to everything you are asked to do, look at your day and decide what aligns with your goals, and learn to say no if it doesn’t!

Keep adding tasks to your to-do list during the day: You are just making it longer and putting more pressure on yourself! Keep your to-do list short, and reward yourself when you get it done. This will give you the motivation to keep going and do the same the next day!

  1. Great tips! A little while ago I created a detailed daily schedule for myself, with different time slots for different tasks, also including downtime, going to the gym etc. Now I just need to learn to follow it! 😉
